WHO SHOT THAT? Is a collection of 500 portraits and interviews with great photographers from around the world. The project started in 1984, and now numbers around 500 portraits. A 128 page book is now available entitled 'Who Shot That?'. It includes 64 portraits of the photographers together with a quote by the photographer and some anecdotes from Peter Adams.

UNDER THE SKIN is a collection of Nude Portraits of 'ordinary people', photographed in environments that were important to them. None of the subjects were photographed in my studio and none had been photographed naked before. In most cases, each woman was dealing with a personal issue and wanted to be photographed in a way that opened new doors to her. A 96 page book is available entitled 'Under the Skin, Volume 3', containing 46 high quality nude pictures.

These abstracts were created out of 'found objects' - mostly from the abandoned shale mine at Glen Davis. Entitled BITS OF RUST the collection had an evolution. It began as close up photographs of real objects (for example RUST BUCKET). This was followed by assemblages (for example BITS OF RUST 1). Finally natural objects were added to the collection (for exampleLEAF CIRCLE)

Most of this series of snapshots were grabbed while I was attending concerts, in pubs, in peoples homes. The lighting was usually atrocious and non existant. All the photographs were made using available light.

People are always asking about the RELEASES I use when I am working on personal projects, particularly when that involves photographing people. I am happy for you to down load them and modify them in any way you see fit however, I accept no responmsibility for the effectiveness of them.

These simple releases are not as comprehensive as those reccommended by the ACMP and AIPP and I strongly recommend using the ACMP/AIPP releases if you are working on any commercial job - particularly advertising or where professional models or actors are involved.

My philosophy towards sculpture, is similar to my attitudes towards other forms of visual arts - including photography, painting and graphic design. The work that interests me most has an 'idea' or 'verbal/visual scandal' attached to it. I have little interest in work that is simply a beautifully crafted copy of something - for me, there has to be more. The three dimensional works here were all produced in 2005. In nature, there is no such thing as a perfect right-angle, straight line or rectangle. They simply don’t exist. So why is it that mankind, ever since he made his first daubs on a cave wall, has had the uncontrollable urge to create order and symmetry in nature?

In the name of enlightenment and culture, great gardens have been built in places like Versailles, London and Kyoto – gardens where manicured hedgerows and perfectly spaced trees have been planted to follow complex geometric patterns. And who would dare to question their beauty and perfection – even though nature, when left to her own devices would produce a rather more random and (perhaps) more balanced design?

The resources of our planet are not limitless playthings we can indefinitely re-arrange to our liking. Eventually, if we continue to over-use our seas and forests, the balance between nature and life, as we know it today, will cease to exist. In the words of Margaret Mead: “If we don’t start considering our environment, there will be no need to think about civilisation.”

‘A Question of Balance, No 4’ invites us to re-consider the direction mankind is taking: Should we continue to pursue our vacuous attempts to control nature, or should we stand back and bear witness to her freedom to regain her balance?

Lines 5 and 6 from the US National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, read: “And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.” (Francis Scott Key, 14th September 1814)

Ironic isn’t it, that the United States’ self-congratulatory national anthem confirms the problem. It is the United States’ presence (spanner) in the lives of people in troubled spots around the world that ensures that the bombs and unrest continue. A limited edition of 20 Star Bangled Spanners is now available for purchase. Hand cast in Aluminium and painted to look exactly like the 4.5 mtr long original which appeared at Sculpture by the Sea,each spanner is signed and numbered. They are available mounted ready for wall hanging on white or black display boards, or mounted on their own bases for your office desk or home display. Each spanner measures 57 cms x 14 cms x 8 cms and weighs 5.4 kilograms (including base).

An environmental statement, in fifteen pieces. Twenty years ago, three friends and I made a trip around the Australian outback in a six-seater Cessna. At each fly-speck town in the middle of nowhere, I picked up from the butter, a discarded drink can.
